The UT system has established the Horizon Fund to invest in the commercialization of new technologies emerging from UT System component universities and medical institutions. A system-wide competition is held to identify the best spinoff companies with student involvement. This year there were 15 entries from across the system. Based on presentations by the students, a shortlist of 4 was developed. UTSA had 2 companies on this shortlist!! Making UTSA COE proud were Invictus lead by Daniel Mendez and Cardiovate lead by Jordan Kaufmann. Yesterday at a gathering in Austin, the winner was revealed – Cardiovate. As a result the UT System will invest $50,000 in Cardiovate. Congratulations to our wonderful students!
