UTSA named mechanical engineering Professor Yusheng Feng as the school’s inaugural Innovator of the Year on Wednesday.
The award was designed to honor the professor who made the greatest headway in patenting and licensing his or her research during the previous fiscal year.
Fifteen other faculty members from departments as diverse as architecture, electrical engineering, physics, biology, chemistry and computer science also were honored for patenting and licensing discoveries.
Overall, the University of Texas at San Antonio has reported an uptick in commercialization activity over the past five years, with the number of patents filed jumping from three in fiscal 2009 to 76 in year 2013.
