A Message from the Dean Welcome to the College of Engineering at UTSA, where excellence is the motto, and education and research the priorities. The College is the major public provider of undergraduate and graduate engineering education in South Texas with an enrollment close to 1,800 students. We have seen an unprecedented 75% increase in enrollment over the past 5 years and continue to grow steadily. If you are looking for an exciting and rewarding career in the increasingly high-tech world of the 21st century, engineering is the right choice and UTSA is the right place to be. Our undergraduate programs in Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering are ABET accredited. The programs offer curricula that combine a strong theoretical background with hands-on experience in excellent labs, and emphasize teamwork and communication skills. Small classes provide close interaction with outstanding faculty and contribute to an atmosphere conducive to learning. Our MS graduate programs in Civil, Computer, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering, and PhD programs in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Environmental Science and Engineering, offer opportunities for advanced study and research designed to prepare students for leadership roles in engineering careers with industry, government, or educational institutions. They also provide a pathway toward self-improvement and life-long learning for practicing engineers. Cutting-edge research in structural and information security, transportation issues, biomaterials, biomechanics, robotics, and sustainability is federally/state funded and contributes to maintaining US competitiveness and homeland security of the state and nation. The College also works closely with industry to aid the economic development of the state of Texas. UTSA has established a clear goal to become a top-tier research university. To support new research initiatives and accommodate the enrollment growth, we recently expanded into a new Biotechnology, Sciences and Engineering Building. This $84-million, 225,000-SF building is one of the largest educational buildings in the state of Texas and has state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. So, if you are looking for an exceptional engineering educational experience in one of the most diverse and beautiful cities in the United States, come join us at UTSA!
