Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UTSA! The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level that prepare students for future challenges and opportunities.
Our programs include a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (an ABET accredited undergraduate program), a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, a M.S. in Advanced Manufacturing and Enterprise Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, which is a joint effort with Southwest Research Institute. In addition to these four degrees, we also offer a certificate in oil and gas area.
We have multiple undergraduate scholarships and research opportunities available to our undergraduate students. Graduate fellowships are also available for both our masters and doctoral students. Our faculty is committed to student success, both inside and outside of the classroom.
Our faculty includes renowned scholars in areas of mechanics and materials, tissue biomechanics, thermo-fluids, robotics and dynamic controls, advanced manufacturing and lean systems. Our programs prepare students through series of focused classes in the areas of design and manufacturing, mechanics and materials, and thermal and fluid systems, as well as provide them opportunities to participate in state-of-the art, externally funded research.
In addition to having well-equipped labs, two world-class centers are associated with the ME department: CAMLS - which focuses on manufacturing, and SiViRT - which focuses on visualization and real-time computing.
The ME programs prepare students for a wealth of opportunities in virtually all industries including aerospace, automotive, biomedical, energy (wind/solar/petrochemical), heating and cooling systems, machinery, materials, microelectronics, robotics, structures, and many more.
Our goal is to provide the highest quality of education and interdisciplinary research in mechanical engineering for the engineers of our future.
We welcome you to visit the Department of Mechanical Engineering and considering becoming a Roadrunner here at UTSA!
