WELCOME

Starting in September 2014 with funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the WeARE systems project consists of faculty and students from mechanical, civil and environmental engineering departments at the University of Texas at San Antonio.

The WeARE project goals are to (1) design, develop and implement a comprehensive STEM reform model founded on an innovative framework through educational, research, outreach and partnership initiatives built on a fellowship program, research experience, interdisciplinary courses and a pathway academy in WeARE fields; and (2) investigate its impact on pedagogical approaches and student outcomes.

The proposed approach encourages students to adopt a system-level and interdisciplinary perspective and stimulates technical proficiency. The student will be provided with new and current courses as a concentration in WeARE systems, technical workshops, summer internships, research experience camps and seminars that will promote project-based learning where concepts from different disciplines are applied and a systems view is encouraged when proposing solutions and policies.
