The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Engineering’s Interactive Technology Experience Center (iTEC) will be expanding to the UTSA Downtown Campus this fall semester. iTEC was established in 2007 for the purpose of introducing K-12 students to the many different fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and math (S.T.E.A.M.).
“Expanding iTEC to the UTSA Downtown Campus will allow us to reach a new demographic of participants – we will be working with San Antonio Independent School District and the UTSA Institute for P-20 Initiatives to help promote our new program,” said Roberta Luukkonen, iTEC program manager. “We are thankful to both the College of Engineering as well as Rackspace for providing the funding to support our new program efforts.”
The iTEC staff will be offering the same programs at the UTSA Downtown Campus that they have been offering at the UTSA Main Campus for the past nine years. Two of the programs that will be offered when the new space opens on November 21, 2016, are the Thanksgiving Science and Robotics Turkey Trot.
“The Robotics Turkey Trot is perfect for this time of year,” said Roberta. “The students will build and dress robotic turkeys and then program them to waddle down a parade path while avoiding obstacles along the parade path. The kids always have a great time with this activity!”
Over the next year, iTEC hopes to serve oer 900 campers in the new space, which will be located in the Buena Vista building.
