The era of Big Data has brought with it both significant potential benefits as well as challenges.  There is an idea that perhaps the technical advances in our capability to capture, store and analyze very large quantities of data has temporarily outstripped our current ability to develop new and meaningful ways in which to analyze and interpret this exponentially growing data store.  One of the key strategies associated with meeting this challenge is sharing newly emerging issues, developing novel ways of looking at large, inter-related data sets and uncovering new applications and opportunities for this unexpected largesse of complex data sets.

Big Data, Big Challenges“, sponsored by the University of Texas at San Antonio, is dedicated to sharing recent knowledge and experiences gained in the area of Big Data by researchers in academia, industry and the government sectors within the areas of business, national security, infrastructure, healthcare and visualization.
