Biomedical Engineering Faculty

Chunjiang Qian, Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Department of Electrical Engineering

Educational Background:
Ph.D. Case Western Reserve University
M.S., B.S. Fudan University

Areas of Research Interest:

  • Robust and adaptive control
  • Prediction of micro-damage formation in bones
  • Nonlinear analysis and control of biomechanical systems
  • In addition to his research in automatic control, Dr. Qian's research activities in biomedical engineering areas focus on two areas: The first area is the modeling and analysis of micro-damage in bones. Explicit solutions have been derived to predict formation of micro-damages in bones. A second area focuses on analysis and control of biomechanical systems such as artificial arms and legs. Many of his research activities are carried out in the Gait Analysis and Innovative Technologies (GAIT) Laboratory at UTHSCSA.

Dr. Qian is a recipient of 2003 U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER Award. He currently serves as a Subject Editor of International Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, and served as an Associate Editor of IEEE Control Systems Society Conference Editorial Board.
