BME Student Awarded NIH Fellowship

Congratulations are in order to our BME student, Danika Hayman! Danika Hayman, a doctoral student in the Biomedical Engineering Program at UTSA-UTHSCSA has been awarded a two-year fellowship from the National Institutes of Health to pursue her doctoral degree in biomedical engineering.
This is the first NIH fellowship awarded to students in the College of Engineering. It covers the stipend, tuition, laboratory research expenses and travel expenses for attending national conferences. Hayman's doctoral research investigates the effect of pressure pulsatility on the arterial wall remodeling that addresses an important issue in cardiovascular aging and the use of non-pulsatile heart pumps.
Hayman joined the BME program in fall 2005 and is currently a PhD candidate in the Cardiovascular Biomechanics Lab directed by Dr. Hai-Chao Han, an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the joint Biomedical Engineering Program.
