Educational Objectives

The major objectives of our undergraduate program are to produce graduates who:

  1. Are prepared to enter the civil engineering practice and continue at levels of increasing professional responsibility.
  2. Will endeavor to become licensed professional engineers.
  3. Will continue their professional development through participation and leadership in professional organizations.
  4. Are capable of pursuing life-long learning.
The program educational objectives of the Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering are to:
  1. prepare students for leadership roles in careers with industry, government, or educational institutions
  2. develop research capabilities that may culminate in a thesis documenting a substantial contribution to the body of engineering knowledge
The program educational objectives of the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Environmental Science and Engineering are to:
  1. Extend development of research capabilities and depth of study by graduate students beyond the master of science level.
  2. Encourage personal academic development to a level of understanding of environmental science and engineering sufficient that demonstrates readiness to advance to doctoral candidacy.
  3. Conduct independent research, including successful preparation and defense of a dissertation that clearly shows the extension of the body of knowledge in a particular area of environmental engineering.
