Areas of Research Interest:

Dr. Ye’s research covers a wide range of areas in biomedical optics and nanobiotechnology, with special emphasis on the development of cutting-edge ultrasensitive and ultrafast laser-based detection techniques and methodologies to address critical issues at the frontier of biomedical science and technology. His research activities involve:
1. ultrafast laser interaction with nanoparticle targeted cancer cells,
2. in vivo fiber-optic biosensing and imaging of multifunctional nano-devices for drug delivery, 3. fiber scanning multiphoton microscopy,
4. photonic crystal biomolecular assay,
5. novel optoacoustic sensor development,
6. in vivo two-photn flow cytometry,
7. adaptive optical aberration correction in confocal microscopy, and
8. single-molecule fluorescence imaging and spectroscopy.

As a PI and Co-PI, Dr. Ye has been in charge of several NIH granted research programs. He is a senior member of IEEE since 2002. He serves as a reviewer for funding agencies including NIH, NSF and Petroleum Research Fund, and as a reviewer for 11 scientific journals. He also served as the president of Ann Arbor section of Optical Society of America. He has published 67 refereed articles, over 100 conference papers, and two book chapters, and holds 9 patents. In addition, he has served as a professional consultant for four companies. He received a JRCAT Award in 1998 and an Outstanding Research Scientist Award from College of Engineering at the University of Michigan in 2007.
